Kentucky Derby Hat Swap

This Friday Bristol is hosting her Kentucky Derby Hat Swap. I LoVe hats, and am thrilled to be participating! I sent my hat off to my partner, the fabulous Cheryl Dack and can harly wait to see the yummy confection {wink wink} she will send me! We are suppose to post our hats this Friday, to be shown in time for The Kentucky Derby this weekend. But I leave early tomorrow morning for Art & Soul, and asked Bristol if I could post mine today. I can only imagine the hats everyone will come up with, and you guys can follow along on Bristol's blog as she posts links to all the hats on Friday. Oh, and the talented Kari and Kijsa are judging the hats in Show, Place, and Win catagories. While I have no delusions about winning, I have to say it was such fun to putting Cheryl's hat together. Now take a peek at the silly fun I had trying to take the photos. I figured I might as well have fun, and channel my inner "That Girl" with  it! I hope you enjoy your hat Cheryl! Maybe those darling, sweet girls of yours will enjoy playing dress up with it!

In other news:
I have a friend who has Old Wallpaper Sample Books that need a new home. She has heaps, and boxes of then and asked me to let you girls know. If you're interested in any of them you can e-mail Paulette at Paulettejadams@gmail.com.

Birthday Treats

I love time spent with family when everyone's gathered together laughing, chatting, being a bit too loud, kids playing and having a good time. I can get a little overwhelmed preparing for it all, but in the end I always wonder why as the fun far outweighs the work of it. To me there's nothing better! On Saturday we all gathered together to celebrate 2 birthdays. Our sweet Hailey will be 1 next Saturday, and my birthday is this week. Since a few of us will be out of town, we celebrated this weekend.

I made Hailey's party hat, and was glad her Mom liked it and wanted to take it home for her big party next weekend. I also bought her first real doll, a Madame Alexander. I LoVed dolls as a little girl, and hope Hailey will too. I think it's working; once she opened her up, she couldn't take her eyes off her new baby. Everyone had a good time, and might I add...

Who knew Saturdays were the perfect day to have parties? We have always had our get togethers on Sunday afternoons. But this is much better with the family here to help with clean up, and no one getting up early for work the next morning. I'll definitely be doing this again soon, anyone up for a cool drink and a play date?

those were the days...

After reading Sandra's blog this morning, she got me reminiscing about all the things I loved growing up; marbles, Knockers, and Kiddles just like her. But also Winchell's Donuts on Sunday mornings, swimming in the community pool with our friends in the summer, and sleeping in the backyard without a worry of anything dangerous happening. We had it so good, and I am thankful I grew up when I did. And especially what we watched on TV was better than what passes for family programming now. How many of you watched these...

That reminds me... I need to call our cable company and see if there are any channels that still play these great oldies...
From one sappy, silly girl of the 60's to all of you, have a good week.

Moonlighting

For the past few weeks I've been moonlighting at Gilding the Lily on Thursdays. I love being surrounded by all the Vintage findings Nancy has gathered. It's great because it's Open Studio on Thursdays, where you can come down and work on any of your creative projects. Last week we got to talking about soldering, so tomorrow we are taking our tools and I am going to share what I've learned, our own little Soldering 101 of sorts. Come by if your interested, there's no cost, and it's a good time!
Today I'm going in just for a few hours, while Romantic Homes is there doing a photo shoot. Should be fun...

California Getaway...

Mr Warren and I took a short getaway this weekend with friends from The Long Beach Bow Hunters. We headed a few hours north so the guys could attend an archery shoot, while the girls had wine tasting on our minds.
As we made our way to the range Saturday morning, we got a bit turned around. When we stopped to ask for directions, it suddenly hit me... we were asking for directions at  Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch. What a crack up! Being the paparazzi I am, I of course had to take a photo...

While this isn't Napa, it is a close second as the area winery's have grown. The weather was amazing and the countryside is a mix of seaside, rolling hills, and oak trees.

We all enjoyed drinks poolside later in the day, laughing and enjoying the company of friends my husband has known for years. Such a great way to spend an afternoon...
Mr Warren and I came home Sunday evening to this...

A huge branch from a tree in our backyard had fallen in the Santa Ana's that blew while we were gone. It luckily lay between the fence and the window in the livingroom. I'm so glad it didn't take out the fence, or the window! There are only a few inches either way and one or both would have been lost. For those of you who aren't local, we have huge warm winds that occasionally blow in from the dessert sending temps soaring, and tree's falling. I guess housekeeping Monday will have to wait until later, as we have a bigger mess out back...
home sweet home!

Monday, Monday...

Why is it that Mondays just call out to be housekeeping day? Even with our kids grown, our youngest out of school, two married and out of the house... some things never change. Monday is housekeeping day, it's just the way it is. The washer's going, the floors have been vacuumed and moped, the sheets changed and beds are made. I even washed my son's bedroom windows. I'd say I deserve a little break for a diet coke and some chit~chat.
The Mercantile Flea Market on Saturday was a lot of fun, if somewhat small as new beginnings often are. Even with the overcast day, everyone got rid of loads of great stuff...

Here are a few little things I found for myself... all of which I bought from my girlfriends! what are friends for, right?

That fabulous trim above is gathered, you simply pull the string in the center and voila, you have an instant, fun, little trim to add to all your art projects. I'll try and use some this week to show you how great it is!
Ok, duty calls... everyone have a great Monday!

Extra! Extra! Read all about it!

Hey all you local girls, I just heard about something fun. A new flea market makes it's debut this weekend. The Mercantile Flea Market is this Saturday from 9-3 in Old Downtown Fullerton. It's going to be held the first Saturday of every month and it's being put on by a great local gal. Come by if you can. Nancy and I will be there along with another girlfriend Linda Hayward. I hear Linda's got lots of great antiques she'll be selling. I hope to see you there. Here's the flyer...
